Fashion is a big trend and everyone wants in it. Fashion is another world within itself and it shows definitions and color. Everyone is dressing in style and fashion where ever they go. Rather it’s to school, church, or even work. Wearing fashion at work can be sported in a business attire but fabulous. It shows style and professionalism at the same time. In the hospitality career can fashion be unprofessional?
In the hospitality industry, there is the majority of the time where there are a uniform and a code of style that is upheld. Professionalism is a must. Wearing loud hair color can be unprofessional in some establishments. Many people like to get bold with trends and fashion and wear pink or blue hair. Spikes, or mohawks and in some places that could be considered as unprofessional. Even though you may have your uniform on you may still be considered unpresentable and not dressed to part.
Even wearing too much makeup or wearing too much cologne can be considered unprofessional. Way too much makeup will soon cross the border of not presentable and not in uniform. Dark smokey eyes or thick cat eyes can also be unpresentable. Wearing blue, green or black lipstick can become unprofessional. Having extremely loud cologne can be not acceptable. It can be considered unprofessional and not in uniform because it can be a disturbance to a customer. Too much cologne around someone with bad allergies can cause a problem. When wearing too much makeup or dramatic makeup can cause a distraction.
When you want to make a fashion statement in your uniform by adding little pins or decoration to your uniform can also be considered out of uniform and unprofessional. It can again bring distraction and even an unwelcoming environment. Your pin or logo can be defensive to a customer or can be portrayed in a negative way.
During the winter months, you may want to wear a sweater to go with your uniform and adding fashion with it can also be considered out of uniform. Loud color sweaters or funny looking fabrics like animal prints can be unprofessional. Many establishments will not allow sweaters on uniforms and if they do it will probably be black, gray, or navy blue. Having loud colors or fabrics can throw the structure of the uniform off.
The business may want servants and employees to look a certain way and keep the business looking as a whole in a professional matter. So loud colors and fabrics could throw the entire employer presentation off. It could take away from the original appearance that the business was trying to accomplish for their employees and their business.
Another thing that’s can be worn as fashion is jewelry. Some jewelry can also be unprofessional. Large earrings or body piercing that is showing can be considered out of uniform and not professional. Visible body piercing isn’t allowed in many establishments. Loud earring and colorful jewelry are also prohibited in many establishments. Loud nails could be a distraction and they’re can be a standard on how long your nails should be and what color to wear which is usually natural color only.
